When you think of city living, you may imagine a tight apartment, with claustrophobic rooms and minimal light.
Not anymore. Today’s most inventive designers are applying open-concept living to traditional apartment dwellings. With this project, we created the airiness of an urban loft by relocating a few walls and applying some design tricks.
We closely analyzed the layout of this beautiful apartment in the heart of Boston to find the best use of the existing space. Our goal was to create the feeling of larger living without expanding the footprint.
The result was an apartment with optimized functionality for day-to-day living and more inviting spaces for entertaining. We opened up walls to enlarge the second bedroom with a full bathroom and tub. We moved around furniture to optimize flow, and incorporated a customized crate-inspired room divider to designate an office space while preserving an open-concept feel.
